What the team remembers from Edition 03

ARCHIVE · EDITION 03

A year later, we asked the team what they remembered from last year’s festival. Here’s what came back.

Festivals, like most significant experiences, compress strangely in memory. You remember the last fifteen minutes of the last set with crystalline clarity, and the two hours before that as a single smeared warmth. You remember one sentence somebody said to you in the food line at 02:00, and none of the sentences you yourself said to anyone.

A year after Edition 03, we sat our team down and asked: what do you actually remember? Not what happened, not what we documented — what’s still in your head. Here are the replies.

“The three seconds of total silence after the string quartet finished the Górecki. Everyone forgot to clap.”

— MIRA, ARTISTIC DIRECTION

“The couple who got engaged in the food line. I saw her say yes and she didn’t stop smiling for the rest of the weekend.”

— KAT, PRODUCTION

“The artist who forgot her set list and played an entire hour from memory, and said afterwards it was the best set she’d ever done.”

— SAM, BOOKINGS

“The kid, maybe eleven, sitting alone on the step outside the Chapel at 23:00, listening through the open door with his eyes closed.”

— NOOR, DESIGN

“The sunrise set. The sunrise set. The sunrise set.”

— EVERYONE

Edition 04 is 13 — 16 May. We hope you’ll give us something to remember.
